Peach Mask

Skin condition is often the first visible indication of aging, making it especially important to be proactive when considering your skin’s health. Why not treat your body—inside and out—to the anti-aging nutrients in tree fruits, such as avocados and peaches? Two of the major skin problem-causing factors are sun and pollution exposure. Because our faces are most often exposed, they are also the most vulnerable to ongoing oxidative and inflammatory damage. While it’s best to take care of your skin while you’re young, before all these changes start to take place, it’s never too late to improve your skin health.

To start, it is best to avoid smoking and second hand smoke exposure as well as limiting sun and pollution exposure. Protect your face by always remembering to apply sunscreen and wear a hat. In addition, we can expose our bodies, on the inside and outside, to phytochemicals (plant compounds), such as carotenoids, with oxidative and anti-inflammatory properties, that may help to slow skin damage. Several studies suggests the highly bioavailable phytochemicals in avocados, such as the carotenoid—lutein—may help to protect the skin from environmental damage when applied topically or enjoyed in food. As a bonus, it is also possible that sources of smart fats in the diet (like those found in avocados) may enhance skin elasticity, discouraging wrinkles from forming.
