Shaw's Supermarkets receives 2003 Climate Award for corporations

Shaw's wins Climate Champion Award... which was presented at the Climate Solutions for the Northeast Conference in Hartford, CT on Monday, May 12, 2003. From the letter signed by Michael Bradley, Chairman, Board of Directors, Clean Air-Cool Planet to Paul Gannon, Shaw's President and CEO:

ENERGY STAR Partner of the year March 22, 2001

West Bridgewater, MA, March 22, 2001, - ENERGY STARŪ has named Shaw's Supermarkets, Inc a Partner of the Year for its outstanding commitment to pollution prevention through continuous improvement of their office headquarters, stores and distribution centers energy performance. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator, Christie Todd Whitman, recognized Shaw's achievement at a special ceremony in Washington, DC on March 20, 2001.

Shaw's, an ENERGY STAR partner since 1993, was honored for its leadership incorporating strategic energy management into its business plan, thereby protecting the environment and strengthening its bottom line. In an effort to conserve energy and be environmentally responsible, Shaw's has many programs in place including computerized energy management, lighting retrofits in the stores and distribution centers and fuel efficiency in Shaw's truck fleet. Since joining the ENERGY STAR program, Shaw's has helped to reduce air pollution by 225 million lbs. of carbon dioxide, and saved more than $6 million in operating and energy costs.
