Nutrition Insights FAQs

Nutrition Insights provides a view of all customer purchases at Albertsons Inc. broken down into the five core USDA MyPlate food groups: Proteins, Fruits, Vegetables, Dairy, and Grains (MyPlate | U.S. Department of Agriculture). This enables customers to compare their grocery purchases with MyPlate.gov recommended servings per food group based on household size.

MyPlate is a nutrition guide established by USDA (MyPlate | U.S. Department of Agriculture) that is designed to help people visualize how much of their plate should be taken up by a particular food group.  MyPlate classifies food into 5 basic food groups: Proteins, Grains, Dairy, Fruits, and Vegetables.

Nutrition Insights classifies your purchases into the five core food groups and shows  your purchase percentage per food group compared to MyPlate.gov guidelines based on your household recommended servings.

Essential items could be classified into any one of the core food groups (Proteins, Fruits, Vegetables, Dairy, Grains) and Occasional items are non-core foods or beverages to be enjoyed in moderation.

Household information is used to estimate the recommended servings for each food group in a given period (Last 30 days, Last 7 days).  The recommended servings on Nutrition Insights are based on household size and shopping preferences. For example, if a customer sets their protein shopping preferences as ‘Rarely,’ then the recommended servings on Nutrition Insights assumes that 25% of recommended servings in a given period are met based on purchases at Albertsons and assumes the remaining 75% of recommended servings are being met elsewhere.

A customer can earn Healthy Points with Nutrition Insights by setting household information and meeting MyPlate recommended servings for each food group in a month or a week.

Currently, we do not provide recommended servings for children who are under age 14. Nutrition Insights are personalized to the household members age 14 and above.
